Museletter

Let It Snow!

Here’s to you and yours. Sending you a special wish for a joyful holiday, whatever you celebrate. Happy Channukah, Happy Kwanzaa, and Merry Christmas, too. And here’s to a healthy and happy 2021. May it bring peace and love – which is what the world needs now.

I'm guessing what we also need now are some gift ideas -- so here's an entire issue of Mala's Museletter dedicated to gifting, with some of our favorite local and far-flung goodies for your #BAE, your #BFFs, and everyone else on your list. Happy shopping!

There’s nothing better than giving a piece of the Hamptons with handmade gifts from local artisans -- especially if you’re scrambling last minute! I’m a fan of The Monogram Shop because nothing takes your host game to the next level like customized cocktail napkins. Say something funny, say something smart... or just say home with an address!

For something cozy and earth-friendly, try one of my team’s favorites -  Sag Harbor-based Sunswell’s Oyster Flannel, which is actually made from recycled oyster shells and plastic bottles!

Definitely sign up for Stonybrook Southampton Hospital’s inaugural Hamptons Holiday Shop, where your holiday shopping at participating local retailers helps raise funds towards the building of a new East Hampton Emergency Department:
  • Give clothing: Urban Zen, Joey Wölffer, Bonne Nuit, J. McLaughlin, Tenet, Peserico, and Plain-T
  • Give gift items and wellness: East Hampton Gardens, Cindy Chang Wellness, Thuyen Skincare
  • Give a gift certificate for catering: Janet O’Brien Caterers & Events, Elegant Affairs Catering, East End Taste,
  • Give a meal: K-Pasa, Mecox Bay Dairy, Tutto Il Giorno, Ed’s Lobster Bar, Hamptons Coffee Company, Golden Pear Cafe
  • Give wine or a wine tasting experience: Wölffer Estate Vineyard
  • Give a visit to the Hamptons with a package from Hampton Jitney and/or the Southampton Inn
To spread the giving even further, check out these 31 chic gifts that all support charities. That’s a valid excuse to buy them all, right?!
Sometimes the smallest gifts are the hardest, so here’s a little stocking stuffer cheat sheet. If you follow my daughter Tina on instagram, you’ll recognize the chili-crisp and know you can put it on just about anything!

Speaking of food -- get the culinary connoisseur in your life one of the best cookbooks of 2020, and make sure you’re there to enjoy the fruits of their labor! You can cheer them on while enjoying one of these wines to remember in a year to forget.

Now that you’ve gotten everything off your list, it’s time to pamper yourself -- and your senses! Check out these sumptuous candles and a little lesson on lighting etiquette.

I love Aesop’s newly-released candles. Each scent is unbelievably transportive and comes in a stunning reusable ceramic vessel.  And at this time of year, Diptique’s Feu de Bois is great for apartment dwellers to enjoy that fresh firewood scent without the heat or smoke of a real fire.
Your holiday mood wouldn’t be complete without a little holiday music, so tune in this Friday night at 5PM for a really fun cocktailing while caroling. I promise you you’ll love Bay Street Theater’s Holiday Sing Along

And it wouldn’t be Christmas without you know who! Check out Mariah Carey’s Magical Christmas Special for a star-studded spectacle, and brand new music like...
Mariah Carey - Oh Santa! ft. Ariana Grande & Jennifer Hudson
Or just stick with the tried and true classics, like Dolly Parton and Kenny Rogers’ Once Upon a Christmas!
Then get your goodbye-2020-party started with one of Pitchfork’s 50 best albums of 2020. Warning: Jessie Ware’s What’s Your Pleasure and Róisín Murphy’s Róisín Machine may induce disco! And are perfect for turning the pool house at 12 Latham into a club on New Years Eve!

Toast to 2021 with one of these bottles of bubbly you may have never heard of.
Thanks for reading and thanks for being there. I'm here for you, whatever you may need here on the East End!  I'll be back in 2021 with more of everything that is #AuthenticallyHamptons.

All the best,

Mala
