Cedar Point County Park

5 Cedar Point Rd, East Hampton

Cedar Point County Park, sprawling over 607 acres, combines stunning natural beauty with a rich historical narrative, establishing itself as a top destination for those who love the outdoors and history. Known for its breathtaking views of Gardiner's Bay, the park sets a picturesque stage for various recreational pursuits.

At Cedar Point, visitors have the option of traditional camping or choosing the more luxurious glamping in safari-style tents. These tents offer comfort and a unique way to experience the bay's scenic environment. Day visitors can also enjoy numerous picnic areas, perfect for a serene family outing.

The park is a favored spot for fishing, particularly surfcasting, offering chances to catch bass and bluefish. In season, licensed hunting for waterfowl is permitted. The park also boasts diverse hiking trails suitable for all levels, enabling explorers to traverse its varied landscapes.

Additionally, Cedar Point includes a dog park, making it a welcoming place for pet owners to enjoy the outdoors with their pets. The park's historical significance as a former bustling port area crucial to Sag Harbor's whaling industry adds to its allure. The Cedar Point Lighthouse, which historically guided whaling ships, enhances this connection, though it is no longer operational. A narrow walkable strip now connects the lighthouse to the mainland, providing a scenic pathway for visitors to explore and appreciate the area's maritime heritage.

John Steinbeck Waterfront Park

41.002578, 72.296574, Sag Harbor

John Steinbeck Waterfront Park, occupying 1.25 acres along the shores of Sag Harbor, is a tribute to the famed author John Steinbeck, who made this village his home. This waterfront park is a peaceful oasis and a scenic gateway to the Village's Main Street.

The park is a focal point for community life and accessibility. It has been integrated with the newly renovated Long Wharf, featuring an ecologically sustainable boardwalk. This development is part of a larger effort to enhance accessibility throughout the area, allowing full ADA access from The Wharf under the Lance Corporal Jordan C. Haerter Veterans Memorial Bridge. This interconnected feature forms a central hub in the heart of downtown Sag Harbor, linking various elements of the village in a seamless and accessible manner.

Visitors to the park can enjoy the tranquil surroundings where the reflections of sunlight on the water complement the serene atmosphere, which is ideal for relaxation or a reflective stroll. The park's strategic location and connection to significant community landmarks make it a natural gathering place, offering a blend of leisure and educational opportunities within a setting that honors a notable literary figure and the community's maritime heritage.

This blend of accessibility, historical significance, and natural beauty makes John Steinbeck Waterfront Park a cherished spot in Sag Harbor. It enhances the village's appeal as a destination for those who appreciate its cultural history and commitment to inclusivity and environmental sustainability.

Foster Memorial Beach

3809 Noyack Rd, Sag Harbor

Foster Memorial Beach, more affectionately known as Long Beach, is a cherished local spot with a rich history and various amenities catering to beachgoers. The beach is named after Clifford Foster, a Sagaponack farmer who originally owned the land and bequeathed it to the town upon his passing, allowing generations to enjoy the scenic views and sandy shores.

Foster Memorial Beach is on a narrow strip of land connecting Noyac to North Haven. Its unique geographical setting enhances its appeal. During the active season, the beach features lifeguard services daily from 10 AM to 5 PM, ensuring a safe environment for swimming and water activities.

One of Foster Memorial Beach's highlights is the opportunity for beach barbecues, making it a popular spot for family gatherings and social events. Additionally, the beach provides drive-on access; however, it requires a Southampton Town Trustees 4×4 beach driving permit, and there is a strict speed limit of 10 miles per hour to ensure the safety of all visitors. It's important to note that ATVs are not allowed on the beach.

Pet owners will find Foster Memorial Beach accommodating, as leashed pets are permitted on marked dog walk routes, parking areas, and paved footpaths. However, to preserve the cleanliness and safety of the recreational areas, pets are not allowed on the beach, in picnic areas, or in other grassy regions of the park.
